Namninsamling för en global alkoholkonvention
Stöd KSAN:s namninsamling för en global alkoholkonvention med målet att halvera alkoholkonsumtionen till år 2025. Vi kräver att Sverige återtar ledningen för folkhälsobaserad alkoholpolitik och att regeringen ska verka såväl i Europa som internationellt för en alkoholkonvention.
OM NAMNINSAMLINGEN
Globalt dör 3,3 miljoner människor varje år en alkoholrelaterad död (1 person var 10:e sekund) enligt WHO 2014. Hundratusentals insjuknar i cancer. Alkoholen skapar ohälsa och annat elände även för anhöriga och andra runt om kring den som dricker. Alkohol är enda orsaken till ca 25 kroniska sjukdomar och bidragande orsak till minst 200 sjukdomar enligt Folkhälsomyndigheten. Den aggressiva marknadsföringen av alkohol riktas allt mer till flickor och kvinnor.
Med tanke på vad allt vi vet idag så är det dags för att få fart i ett arbete för en global alkoholkonvention för att minska alkoholrelaterade sjukdomsbördan. Det är möjligt!
Forskare på agenda 2015-konferensen nyligen tog upp behovet av en alkoholkonvention. För att det ska hända något startar KSAN en namninsamling för stöd för en global alkoholkonvention och för halvering av alkoholkonsumtionen till år 2025. Vi kräver att Sverige återtar ledningen för folkhälsobaserad alkoholpolitik och att regeringen ska verka såväl i Europa som internationellt för en alkoholkonvention.
På EU-nivå finns ingen gällande alkoholstrategi nu och Sverige lär hamna i ett strategilöst läge vid årsskiftet innan den nya kommer vintern 2016.
Sverige har gått i täten förut också – WHOs globala alkoholstrategi kom ju till 2010 genom 5 års påtryckningar mest från Sveriges regering. 193 WHO medlemsstater kom överens om den. Den strategin är tandlös om det saknas intresse i medlemsstaterna.
En global alkoholkonvention behöver ett konkret mål – att halvera alkoholkonsumtionen till år 2025.
Det fanns ett konkret mål förut när WHO förde alkohol/hälsofrågan – 25 % minskning av alkoholkonsumtionen till år 2000. Värt att notera är att bl a alla nordiska länderna hade ställt sig bakom det målet. Tio år innan tappade man styrfarten av olika anledningar – men det finns inget som hindrar att ta vid där det stannade och jobba vidare.
Med hjälp av en global alkoholkonvention kan samma kontroll uppnås på alkoholområdet som nu finns gällande tobak. Tobakskonventionen ger utrymme för utfasning av rökning till år 2025, man tror att ca 5 % av befolkningen i Sverige röker då. Det är alltså inte fråga om några absoluta förbud mot tillverkning, försäljning, innehav eller användning av tobak.
Stöd vårt krav på Sveriges regering att arbeta för en global alkoholkonvention med ett konkret mål att halvera alkoholkonsumtionen till år 2025! I Sverige skulle det betyda en minskning från 9,4 till 4,7 liter alkohol/person över 15 års ålder, under kommande 10 års period.

"We must have done something right!"
NordAN Conference 2016, Oslo Norway, October 15-16.
Conference theme:
Youth drinking is going down. That promising and somewhat surprising development in Nordic countries, which has traditionally a strong alcohol policy but also in Baltic countries with much weaker regulation. The same is reported in UK; Australia, Japan. To mention few. We must have done something right. But what exactly? What is behind these positive changes? What are the main drivers and factors why the group of abstaining teenagers is growing?

NordAN´s womens section was formed in 2006 by Sweden’s KSAN (Women’s Organisations Committee on Alcohol and Drugs Issues) and Finland’s Naistenkartano R.y (Women Together Against Addictions) to encourage voluntary organisations to commit themselves more deeply towards issues pertaining to girls’ and women’s misuse and abuse of alcohol, addictive pharmaceuticals and drugs.
Goals of women´s section are:
* influence attitudes and values regarding girl’s and women’s abuse and potential for treatment;
* influence decision-makers in the Nordic Countries, the Baltic States and the rest of Europe such that resources are made available for research and preventive initiatives in this field;
*stimulate interest in women’s abuse issues among groups that have not previously been involved in work of this nature;
*increase exchanges and cooperation between various players in the Nordic countries and the Baltic States to stimulate increased gender-specific, gender-sensitive initiatives for girls and women in the combat against alcohol and drugs;
*create a joint strategy for NordAN’s work in alcohol and drug issues from a women’s perspective.

ABOUT THE PETITION
Globally, 3.3 million people die every year in an alcohol-related death (1 person every 10 seconds) according to WHO in 2014. Hundreds of thousands fall ill with cancer. Alcohol also causes harm and misfortune for relatives and other people around the drinker. Alcohol is the sole cause of about 25 chronic diseases and contributes to at least 200 diseases, according to the Public Health Agency in Sweden. The aggressive marketing of alcohol is increasingly targeted to girls and women.
Given what we all know today, it is time to work for a global convention on alcohol to reduce the alcohol-related disease burden. It is possible to do this!
Researchers at the Swedish conference “Agenda 2015” brought up the need for an alcohol convention. In order for something to happen WOCAD started a petition in support of a Global Convention on Alcohol Control to halve alcohol consumption by 2025. We demand that Sweden’s government resumes leadership of public health-based alcohol policy and that the government works both in Europe and internationally for a Global Convention on Alcohol Control.
At the EU level there was no current alcohol strategy 2015 and Sweden might end up without a strategy at the end of the year (before the new strategy would be decided on in the beginning of 2016.)
Sweden has taken the lead before! The WHO global alcohol strategy was adopted in 2010, after 5 years of pressure mostly from the Swedish government. 193 WHO Member States agreed on it. The strategy is toothless if the Member States are not interested in it.
A Global Convention on Alcohol Control needs a measurable goal: to halve alcohol consumption by 2025. There was a specific goal before, when WHO conducted alcohol/health issues, a 25% reduction in alcohol consumption by 2000. It is worth noting that all the Nordic countries have endorsed that goal. During the 1990’s the work towards the goal lessened - but there is no reason not to pick up where it stopped and continue working!
With the help of a Global Convention on Alcohol Control, the same control can be achieved in the alcohol field as currently exists for tobacco. The Tobacco Convention allows for us to phase out smoking by 2025 – it is believed that by then about 5% of the population in Sweden will smoke. Therefore it is not a question of banning production, sale, possession or use of tobacco.
Support WOCAD’s demand that the Swedish government should work for a Global Convention on Alcohol Control, with the specific goal to halve alcohol consumption by 2025! In Sweden, this would mean a reduction from 9.4 to 4.7 liters of alcohol per person (over the age of 15) over the next 10 years.

KSANs Kanslichef Leena Haraké och Projektledare Britt Fredenman, tillsammans med 20 drogförebyggare från Västra Götaland i samarbete med Länsnykterhetsförbundet, har deltagit i studieresan kring utbildningspaketet Om Droger 2016.
Om Droger 2016 är ett utbildningspaket för personal med intresse för prevention kring alkohol och andra droger. Under studieresan får vi får ta del av folkhälsoarbete, förebyggande arbete och behandlingsinsatser, utifrån alkohol- och drogområdet, genom studiebesök hos politiker, myndigheter, forskare, behandlingshem samt ideella organisationer mm.
